Mazatlán Film and Theater is a group of immigrants in Mazatlán with a background and/or interest in film and theater. We are a non-profit, all volunteer supported organization.
Film
We offer films twice a week on most Mondays and Thursdays during our season. Films are shown twice each of these days, at 3:00 and 7:00pm. Tickets are available at the door and we suggest a donation of $35 pesos. Our films, chosen by a small committee include newer independent movies and some big studio productions.
Music
Local and visiting musicians join to offer a Jazz Jam on Wednesdays at 5:00 to 7:00pm. This is an informal event with different musicians who play for the love of playing and the enjoyment of anyone who drops in to listen. There is no charge for this weekly event.
Other musical events will also be presented and announced as plans are finalized. Expect some wonderful concerts! Tickets will be available for these events.
Reader’s Theater
Each season we offer several play readings. We present these plays in modified readers’ theater format, reading scripts but using multi-media to set the stage with actors wearing “costumes” that suggest the characters.
Our actors are both experienced and new to theater with a love of theater and an interest in performing. We hold “open auditions” to find actors and to cast our plays and everyone is welcome. Please check our schedule for dates and times for both auditions and our productions.
Special Events
We host different special events that include talks on a variety of subjects. Examples include presentations by local artists on their experience and work, what to do to organize your affairs while in Mexico, nutrition, and history of our area here in Sinaloa.
Our Organization
We are a registered not for profit organization operating in Mexico with a Board of Directors. All members of the Board are volunteers, each with assigned support duties. Members of the Board serve for a term of one year, September through August. Some members are year-round residents; others leave Mazatlán for a period.
Volunteers complete many varied tasks that contribute to the organization. Some sell tickets for movies and other events; others serve as projectionists for movies; yet others work at our concession counter during films, plays and other events. We also utilize volunteers to support our media, maintain our Facebook page and send weekly emails to our community. All volunteers participate as frequently as they choose.
